ISLAMABAD, October 30, 2025: A joint no-confidence motion against Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwarul Haq has been finalised, with members of both the PPP and PML-N signing the resolution. However, the PPP has yet to announce its nominee to replace the embattled premier.

According to informed sources, although only 14 signatures are required to submit the motion, the number of signatories is significantly higher. Those who signed include PML-N’s AJK chief Shah Ghulam Qadir, parliamentary leader Raja Farooq Haider, and all six members of the forward bloc aligned with AJK President Barrister Sultan Mehmood.

The PML-N has agreed to back the motion but, according to party sources, will not vote for the PPP’s candidate for prime minister. The party’s ministers are expected to resign after submission and move to the opposition benches.

The motion follows a meeting at the Presidency in Islamabad, where it was decided that the PPP would form the next government in AJK. Subsequently, 10 members of the forward bloc joined the PPP, boosting its strength from 17 to 27 members, the simple majority required in the 53-member assembly.

With PML-N’s support, the total number of lawmakers poised to vote out Anwarul Haq now stands at 36, though PPP insiders claim the party already enjoys “open support” from 37 members.

Television reports suggested that PPP AJK President Chaudhry Yasin had been finalised as the party’s nominee for prime minister, but he later denied this on social media, saying the leadership had not yet made a formal announcement.

Sources said the PPP will unveil its nominee after a meeting between President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, which could not take place on Wednesday.

A meeting of the PPP AJK parliamentary party will be held on Friday at Zardari House, to be chaired by Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, where the final decision on the new AJK prime minister is expected.
