Washington — A Pakistani-American man was discovered dead with blunt-force trauma and thermal injuries inside a Northwest Washington apartment following a small fire early Wednesday, February 11, 2026, prompting a homicide investigation by the Metropolitan Police Department.

Firefighters from Washington Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to reports of smoke in a hallway at approximately 3:33 am in the 1400 block of Rhode Island Avenue NW, near Logan Circle. Upon entering the apartment, they extinguished a small fire and found the victim, identified as 40-year-old Syed Hammad Hussain, unconscious and not breathing.
