SUKKUR/JACOBABAD – In a shocking case of abuse of power, six police personnel, including an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), have been arrested and booked for the custodial gang rape of a young girl in Jacobabad. The incident, which has sparked widespread outrage, came to light after the victim’s video statement went viral, prompting an immediate high-level inquiry.
Details of the Inquiry and Medical Findings
The arrests were finalized on Monday following a detailed investigation led by Jacobabad Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mohammad Kaleem Malik. The inquiry was initiated on the direct orders of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh.
According to the SSP’s statement, the victim was subjected to the assault at the RD-52 police station in Taluka Thul. A preliminary medical examination conducted by Dr. Husna Channa at the Thul Taluka Hospital has officially confirmed the gang rape. Medical staff have also collected DNA samples from the victim for forensic validation to strengthen the prosecution’s case.
Circumstances of Detention
The victim, along with her sister and grandmother, had been picked up by the police as part of an ongoing murder investigation. However, instead of following legal protocols, the police reportedly held the three women in “wrongful confinement” for several days. The SSP confirmed that the six accused took advantage of the absence of the Station House Officer (SHO) to commit the crime.
