Choose Between Terrorists or Pakistan, DG ISPR Issues Ultimatum to Kabul

Feb 28, 2026 | Current Affairs

RAWALPINDI / ISLAMABAD – In a landmark press briefing on Friday, February 27, 2026, Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry laid out a stark choice for the Afghan Taliban regime: dismantle the ecosystem of terrorism or face the full might of the Pakistan Armed Forces.

The DG ISPR’s briefing provided the most comprehensive update yet on Operation Ghazab-lil-Haq (also referred to as Operation Zarb-ul-Haq), confirming that Pakistan has shifted from a policy of restraint to one of “open war” against the “master proxies” operating from Afghan soil.

Operation Ghazab-lil-Haq: The Battlefield Report

The DG ISPR revealed that the Afghan Taliban and Fitna al-Khawarij (TTP) launched coordinated raids on 53 locations along the border. Pakistan’s response was “immediate, effective, and brutal”:

  • Enemy Casualties: 274 Afghan Taliban and Khawarij killed; over 400 injured.
  • Posts Captured/Destroyed: Pakistani forces captured 18 Afghan posts and totally destroyed 73 others.
  • Heavy Armor Losses: An estimated 115 tanks, armored vehicles, and artillery pieces of the Taliban regime have been obliterated.
  • Deep Strikes: The PAF targeted 22 high-value military installations in Kabul, Kandahar, Paktia, Nangarhar, Khost, and Paktika. These included Corps and Brigade Headquarters providing logistics to terrorists.

The Ultimatum: “The Choice is Yours”

General Chaudhry was unequivocal in his message to the Kabul regime:

“The oppressive Afghan Taliban regime has to make a clear choice… between Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan, BLA, Daesh, Al Qaeda—the terrorists—and Pakistan. Our choice is absolutely clear. It will always be Pakistan over everything.”

He further noted that the distinction between the Taliban regime and terrorist organizations has “blurred,” characterizing the regime as a “master proxy” that has violated the Doha Accord by harboring global militants.

Casualties and Martyrs

The DG ISPR confirmed the high cost of defending the frontier:

  • Pakistan’s Toll: 12 soldiers embraced martyrdom, 27 were injured, and 1 soldier remains Missing in Action (MIA).
  • Respect for the Fallen: In a gesture of professional military conduct, the DG noted that while the Taliban fled and abandoned their dead, the Pakistan Army has secured those bodies in accordance with Geneva protocols.

Foiling the “India-Taliban” Nexus

The briefing highlighted a “supreme clarity” regarding external involvement. The DG ISPR stated that the Taliban regime is serving as a base for Indian-sponsored designs, providing the area from which “Fitna al-Hindustan” (Indian-backed proxies) and “Fitna al-Khawarij” (TTP) operate to destabilize Pakistan.

Latest Update: Saturday morning, Feb 28

  • Nationwide Alert: High alerts have been issued in major cities like Karachi and Lahore, with bans on drones and quadcopters in KP, GB, and Sindh.
  • Updated Toll: Minister Attaullah Tarar updated the figures early Saturday morning, claiming the death toll for Taliban combatants has risen to 297, with 135 tanks now confirmed destroyed.
  • Anti-Drone Success: The DG ISPR confirmed that “rudimentary” Taliban drones targeting Abbottabad and Nowshera were successfully intercepted and shot down by Pakistan’s anti-drone systems.
