ISLAMABAD: China’s Hebei Juhang Energy Technology Group has expressed strong interest in setting up a large-scale solar panel manufacturing facility in Pakistan, aiming to serve both domestic energy needs and regional export markets.

A delegation led by the group’s chairman, Wang Jianbin, met Minister for the Board of Investment (BoI) Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh on Tuesday, accompanied by representatives from the China-Pakistan Business Forum. The delegation conveyed the company’s intention to invest billions of dollars in Pakistan’s solar energy sector and other high-tech industries.

Welcoming the proposal, Mr Sheikh described the present moment as “a great time and a golden opportunity for investment in Pakistan.” He highlighted recent government reforms introduced to improve the business climate, including the launch of the single-window Business Facilitation Centre, which is designed to streamline approvals and services for investors.

The BoI informed the delegation that the government was willing to allocate up to 6,000 acres of land for the proposed investment. Officials also briefed the Chinese team on the incentives available within Special Economic Zones (SEZs), including a 10-year income tax exemption aimed at attracting long-term foreign investors.

Chairman Wang expressed his company’s interest in pursuing multi-billion-dollar ventures in solar technology and related high-tech segments. The discussions also reviewed progress stemming from the second Pakistan-China B2B Investment Conference held in Beijing in September, where joint ventures and agreements worth $8.5 billion were finalised across key sectors.

Mr Sheikh noted that Pakistan was on a trajectory toward economic stabilisation, citing the sharp rise in the stock market index over the past year as an indicator of improving investor confidence. He reiterated that agriculture, renewable energy, information technology, chemicals and manufacturing offered significant opportunities for both domestic and foreign investors.

Reaffirming the BOI’s support, the minister called for an acceleration of feasibility studies and joint-venture partnerships. He stressed that Pakistan remained a strategic investment destination for China and encouraged further collaboration in green technologies that could generate employment and support sustainable economic growth.

He added that the government welcomed high-quality Chinese investment in sectors capable of strengthening industrial capacity and enhancing Pakistan’s export potential.
