Former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry, accompanied by ex-governor Imran Ismail and political figure Mahmood Maulvi, called on Pakistan Muslim League–Quaid (PML-Q) President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain at his Lahore residence on Thursday to seek his support for their “Release Imran Khan” campaign.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Fawad Chaudhry said that Shujaat Hussain appreciated their efforts, describing them as “an attempt to save the country.” He added that the veteran politician assured the delegation of his backing and pledged to play a role in lowering political tensions nationwide.
According to a press statement issued from Shujaat Hussain’s residence, the meeting discussed the current political situation and ways to promote reconciliation among political parties. Provincial Minister Shafay Hussain was also present at the meeting.

The participants reportedly agreed to work together to help steer the country out of its political and economic challenges and promote national unity.
Speaking after the meeting, Fawad Chaudhry said that Shujaat Hussain had always pursued a policy of dialogue and reconciliation. “He has a long history of bringing political opponents together, and we continue to seek his guidance in the present circumstances,” he added.
For his part, Shujaat Hussain emphasised the need for close coordination among political forces, stressing that all stakeholders must contribute to national progress and stability. He lauded the role of the Pakistan Army in safeguarding the country’s borders and combating terrorism, saying, “Every institution and leader must work together to rid the country of extremism.”

Meanwhile, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, accompanied by Intizar Panjotha and Ali Ijaz Butter, visited the Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute (PKLI) to meet the party’s ailing vice chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi, but was denied access after waiting for two hours.
Earlier, Fawad Chaudhry and his group had met Qureshi to convince him to join their campaign, but PTI Secretary-General Salman Akram Raja later quoted Qureshi as reaffirming his loyalty to Imran Khan, saying his imprisonment was “proof of his commitment.”
