Customs Scandal: FIA Arrests Two Officials in Lahore

Sep 4, 2025 | Crime & Law, Current Affairs

In a major crackdown on corruption, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested two customs officials in Lahore on September 3, 2025, for their alleged involvement in an illegal vehicle auction scam.

The Accused:
  • Deputy Collector Maryam Jameela
  • Assistant Collector Naeem Raza

The Scam:

The officials are accused of creating fake customs auction IDs, making fraudulent entries, and conducting bogus verifications of vehicles. They allegedly colluded with private individuals and Motor Registration Authority members to facilitate the scam.

The Investigation:

The FIA launched an investigation after a complaint was registered about illegal vehicle auctions and fraudulent documentation. A digital audit revealed 103 fraudulent uploads in the Customs system, and a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) uncovered a wider racket involving MRAs and dealers.

The Numbers:

  • 103 vehicles fraudulently entered using fake user IDs
  • 43 smuggled vehicles registered by MRAs, given a false appearance of legality
  • 1,909 vehicles uploaded to the Auction Module since its launch in August 2021

The Crackdown:

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has initiated disciplinary and criminal proceedings against its officers involved in the scam. The FIA is conducting raids to arrest other suspects, and the FBR has launched integrity profiling of its workforce and strengthened internal checks.

What’s Next:

The FIA’s action sends a strong message that corruption will not be tolerated. As the investigation unfolds, more arrests are expected, and the FBR’s zero-tolerance stance on corruption will be put to the test. Will this be the beginning of a larger crackdown on government corruption? Only time will tell.
