Imran Khan Orders PTI Lawmakers to Resign from Punjab Assembly’s Standing Committees

RAWALPINDI – October 10, 2025— Imran Khan has directed all PTI lawmakers in the Punjab Assembly to resign from their positions in standing committees, including chairmanships, as part of the party’s broader boycott of parliamentary structures, confirmed Barrister Gohar Ali Khan on Thursday.

Speaking to the media outside Adiala Jail following a meeting with the incarcerated PTI founder, Gohar said the decision aligns with the strategy previously implemented in the National Assembly and Senate, where PTI members withdrew from all parliamentary committees in protest.

“Khan has issued the directive for Punjab. Our 107 MPAs will resign from the 14 standing committees where they hold memberships and chairmanships,” Gohar said.

This move follows Imran Khan’s earlier statement in August, where he opposed contesting by-elections triggered by the disqualification of party members over alleged involvement in the May 9 riots, and directed the party to disengage from legislative proceedings, including the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).

Leadership Stability and KP Politics

Addressing speculation over a possible shake-up in party leadership following the resignation of Ali Amin Gandapur as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister, Gohar dismissed reports of his own removal as party chairman as “just rumours.”

“There is no issue of my chairmanship. The party is stable,” he clarified.

He added that Imran Khan continues to hold Gandapur in high regard, describing him as “one of my few loyal allies.” However, he explained that Khan’s strong anti-terrorism stance — which emphasizes political strategy over military operations — influenced the decision for a change in KP leadership.

“Any operation without a political solution causes collateral damage and radicalization. Khan said our province cannot afford this and wanted drastic change,” Gohar stated.

The transition process in KP, he added, would be completed soon, with the cabinet remaining intact. Final decisions on new leadership will be made by Imran Khan himself.

Context: PTI’s Parliamentary Disengagement

  • PTI’s withdrawal from parliamentary committees is part of a broader political boycott amid claims of electoral injustice and political victimization.

  • The party had already pulled out of Senate and National Assembly standing committees.

  • The directive now extends to Punjab, where PTI holds significant strength with 107 MPAs.
