PESHAWAR, Oct 31: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi on Friday unveiled his provincial cabinet, comprising ten ministers, two advisers, and one special assistant, with the oath-taking ceremony scheduled to take place later in the day at the Governor House.
According to an official summary sent by the provincial government to Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, a copy of which was seen by Dawn.com, the chief minister has appointed Meena Khan Afridi, Arshad Ayub Khan, Amjad Ali, Aftab Alam Khan, Fazal Shakoor Khan, Khaleequr Rahman, Riaz Khan, Syed Fakhar Jehan, Aqibullah Khan, and Faisal Khan as provincial ministers.

The summary further names Muzammil Aslam and Taj Muhammad as advisers to the chief minister, while Shafi Jan has been appointed as a special assistant. The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chapter confirmed the appointments in a post on the social media platform X.
Governor Signs Summary, Ceremony at 3 PM
Governor Kundi confirmed that he had approved the summary for the formation of the cabinet.
“The oath-taking ceremony of the newly appointed provincial ministers will take place at the Governor House today at 3 p.m.,” he said in a statement.
Political Reactions
Following the announcement, former provincial minister Taimur Saleem Khan Jhagra congratulated the new cabinet members and extended best wishes for their tenure.
Afridi, who assumed office earlier this month, had previously said he would finalise his cabinet after consulting PTI founder Imran Khan, who remains incarcerated. However, after multiple unsuccessful attempts to meet the former prime minister, Imran’s sister reportedly conveyed to Afridi that he had “complete authority” to make appointments at his discretion.

Opposition Criticism Over Delay
Opposition lawmakers in the KP Assembly had earlier criticised the PTI-led government for the delay in forming the cabinet, warning that the province’s administrative affairs were being adversely affected. Some members had even expressed concern that prolonged inaction could invite the imposition of an emergency in the province.

The PTI’s provincial leadership had also maintained that individuals facing corruption allegations or possessing a “bad reputation” from previous tenures should be excluded from the new cabinet.
