TOBA TEK SINGH: A senior lawyer and former Jhang District Bar Association (DBA) president, Mehr Muhammad Munir Sadhana, was shot dead along with his driver and a passer-by when two unidentified assailants opened fire on his vehicle on Gojra Road in Jhang on Saturday morning. A shopkeeper was also injured in the attack.
According to Jhang Satellite Town police, the gunmen, riding a motorcycle, intercepted Sadhana’s car near Bilqees Hospital and fired multiple rounds before fleeing the scene.
Police said Sadhana was travelling to the Jhang District Courts Complex when the ambush took place. His driver, Mumtaz Ahmad, died on the spot, while Sadhana, passer-by Mushtaq, and a shopkeeper injured in the firing were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital. Sadhana and Mushtaq later succumbed to their injuries.
Sadhana, a well-known lawyer, was a close associate of former federal interior minister Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat, who arrived at the hospital to receive his friend’s body. Deputy Commissioner Ali Akbar Bhinder and DPO Bilal Kiani also reached the site and met the victim’s family.
Following news of the attack, lawyers at the district courts announced an immediate strike. DBA President Mehr Muhammad Fareed Nawaz Naul, in a press release, condemned the assassination and declared three working days of mourning, demanding swift arrest of the killers.
Police said no FIR had been registered till the filing of the report, as they were still awaiting a formal complaint from the victim’s family.

A large number of lawyers, judges, government officials and citizens attended Sadhana’s funeral prayers held at Church Ground.
Separate Accidents Claim Two Lives in Faisalabad
In another incident, a motorcycle rider, Ahmad Ali (19), died while two others — Naveed (18) and Nawaz (21) — were critically injured when a speeding car struck their bike near the FDA City gate on Sargodha Road. The car driver fled the scene.
Separately, a 22-year-old unidentified man died at Allied Hospital after being hit by a train near Chak Bhaiwala in Millat Town police limits.
PWDP Approves New Landfill Site for Faisalabad
The Provincial Development Working Party (PWDP) has approved a major waste-management project — the establishment of a 150-acre landfill site at Lakwana on Makkuana–Khurrianwala Road. The site will have the capacity to dump 1,100 tonnes of waste per day and includes a recycling plan.
Commissioner Raja Jahangir Anwar said the project was urgently needed and work would begin soon.
