Pakistan Working Through Jordan for Safe Evacuation

In a statement on Monday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it is working tirelessly through the Pakistani Embassy in Amman to ensure the safe return of Mushtaq Ahmad Khan, who was part of a pro-Palestinian flotilla bound for Gaza.

“With the invaluable assistance of the Jordanian government, we are hopeful that the process can be successfully concluded within the next couple of days,” the FO spokesperson said, thanking Jordan for its “exemplary cooperation and generous support.”

The FO confirmed that it is in close diplomatic coordination with Jordan and a friendly European country to fast-track the legal and logistical processes required for his evacuation.

Detention During Global Sumud Flotilla

Mushtaq Ahmad Khan, a former Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) senator, was arrested on October 2 while aboard the Global Sumud Flotilla, which aimed to break the blockade on Gaza. He was leading a five-member Pakistani delegation participating in the international humanitarian mission.

Diplomatic channels confirmed that Khan is currently in the custody of Israeli occupying forces and is in good health. Under local procedures, he is expected to appear before a court, after which deportation orders will be issued, paving the way for his repatriation.

“Upon the issuance of deportation orders, his return will be facilitated on a fast-track basis,” the FO added.

The FO has reiterated that it had already taken steps to ensure the safe return of Pakistani nationals who were separated from the flotilla in its initial phase.

“We are grateful to all friendly nations assisting us in these efforts,” said Ambassador Shafqat Ali Khan, the FO spokesperson.
