KOHAT (October 6, 2025) — A policeman was martyred and a Frontier Constabulary (FC) official injured when a police checkpost in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Kohat district came under a coordinated terrorist attack late Sunday night, officials confirmed on Monday. A fierce gun battle lasting over two hours ensued, thwarting the attackers’ attempt to seize the post.
Coordinated attack in Darra Adamkhel
Kohat District Police Officer (DPO) Dr Zahidullah Khan told Dawn.com that a “large number of miscreants” attacked the Darra Adamkhel checkpost from multiple sides at around 1am, triggering an intense exchange of fire between security forces and the unidentified assailants.
“The unidentified assailants aimed to capture the checkpost, but their attempt was thwarted,” the DPO said.
The firefight continued for two and a half hours, during which one police constable embraced martyrdom and an FC official sustained injuries. A clearance and search operation is currently underway in the area.
Authorities said three improvised explosive devices (IEDs) have been recovered so far during the sweep.

Official condemnation and tributes
KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi strongly condemned the attack and paid tribute to the martyred officer, calling his sacrifice part of the police’s vital role in the national fight against terrorism.
“The sacrifices of the police in the war against terrorism will not go in vain,” the governor said in his statement, while praying for the speedy recovery of the injured FC personnel.
Part of a broader surge in terrorist activity
The Kohat attack follows a string of recent assaults targeting security forces in various parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Bannu, Peshawar, Karak, Lakki Marwat, and Bajaur.
Just a day earlier, a soldier was martyred and another was injured after unidentified gunmen attacked them near the Bannu district. Similarly, on September 1, a police constable was martyred and another injured in an attack on a police post in Mir Ali.
Pakistan has witnessed a resurgence in terrorism over the past year, particularly in KP and Balochistan, after the proscribed Fitna al Khwarij (FAK), previously known as Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), ended its ceasefire with the government in November 2022 and vowed to intensify attacks on security forces, police, and other law enforcement agencies.
According to a Dawn report, KP remained the most affected province in the previous month, with 45 reported attacks killing 54 people and injuring 49 — highlighting the escalating threat to law enforcement in the region.
Security forces on high alert
In the wake of the Kohat attack, law enforcement agencies have heightened security and expanded operations in sensitive areas to preempt further militant activity. Officials said efforts are ongoing to trace the attackers and dismantle their local support networks.
The latest attack underscores the continuing threat of militancy in Pakistan’s northwestern regions, as security forces and police personnel remain on the front lines of the counterterrorism battle.
