ISLAMABAD: The Oil and Gas Development Company Ltd (OGDCL) on Wednesday announced a significant oil and gas discovery in the Nashpa Block located in Kohat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa — a development expected to boost the country’s domestic energy reserves.
In a statement, the state-owned energy company said the find was made at its exploratory well Baragzai X-01 (Slant), where fresh hydrocarbon flows were encountered. According to OGDCL, the well is currently producing 2,280 barrels per day of oil and 5.6 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd) of gas through a 32/64 choke size, operating at a wellhead flowing pressure of 2,400 psi.

The company noted that this marks the first hydrocarbon discovery from the Kingriali Formation within the Nashpa Block — a milestone that could open new opportunities for exploration in the region. OGDCL added that the discovery was the result of an extensive exploration campaign aimed at enhancing indigenous energy output and reducing the country’s reliance on imported fuel.

The Nashpa Block, already home to several producing wells, is considered one of OGDCL’s most promising exploration zones. The latest find is expected to contribute meaningfully to Pakistan’s energy mix, offering potential economic benefits and strengthening national energy security.
Further testing and evaluation will continue to determine the full extent of the reservoir and long-term production capacity, the company said.
