Pakistan Launches Its First Center of Excellence in Gaming and Animation (CEGA)

Dec 2, 2025 | Fashion & Entertainment

In a move signaling a major commitment to the digital future of its creative industries, the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT) has officially launched the inaugural incubation program for Pakistan’s Centre of Excellence in Gaming and Animation (CEGA).

This initiative marks a transformative phase for Pakistan’s contribution to the global creative economy, which includes everything from game design to fashion marketing and film special effects.

A State-of-the-Art Creative Hub

The CEGA program, executed through the national technology fund Ignite, has onboarded its first cohort of emerging startups across the country. These startups will operate out of state-of-the-art facilities equipped to support high-quality production.

The goal is explicitly to position Pakistan as a major player in the global gaming and animation industry, a market worth billions. This isn’t just about entertainment; it’s about exporting high-value creative services and digital labour.

Gaming and animation are foundational skills for the entire entertainment sector, providing essential talent for film VFX, architectural visualization, digital fashion design, and virtual reality content creation. This center is the new training ground for the entire creative future.

Project Director Khawar Naeem emphasized the mission: “Our goal is to lay the foundation for Pakistan’s next generation of game and animation creators… strengthening Pakistan’s presence in the global industry.” The program is designed to foster long-term technical and creative growth, leading to high-paying, innovative jobs.

A Win for Digital Fashion and Media

While the focus is on gaming, this launch has massive implications for digital fashion and entertainment.

The skills taught at CEGA are directly applicable to creating stunning VR and AR (Augmented Reality) fashion shows, allowing designers to present collections to global buyers without the logistical cost of physical events.

The animation skills developed here will drastically improve the technical quality and special effects capability of local film and drama productions, raising their competitive standing internationally.
