Accident Dynamics and Rescue Operations
The long-haul passenger coach initially departed from Quetta bound for Peshawar with 36 registered commuters on board. According to Sherani Deputy Commissioner Hazrat Wali Khan Kakar, the vehicle became significantly overcrowded mid-journey after picking up additional passengers from a separate broken-down transit bus along the highway.
Medical Emergency Response Centers (MERC) and Rescue 1122 personnel confirmed that a total of 48 individuals were on board at the moment of the crash.
Evacuation: Teams from Zhob emergency services and KP Rescue 1122 reached the remote site shortly after the vehicle broke through the highway guardrails.
Medical Triage: The eight surviving passengers were extricated from the wreckage and rushed to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital in Zhob.
Casualty Management: Recovered bodies were initially processed at a localized rural health unit before being systematically shifted to the main DHQ facility for identification.
State Authorities Order Formal Inquiry
Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti expressed profound grief over the heavy loss of life and immediately mobilized regional administrative resources to assist the families of the victims. An official statement issued by the Chief Minister’s aide, Shahid Rind, confirmed that an inter-provincial investigative committee has been initiated to determine the precise engineering or mechanical failure that precipitated the fatal plunge.
President Asif Ali Zardari issued a separate state condolence message, directing health authorities to guarantee premium medical treatment for the critically injured survivors.
