Quetta | October 25, 2025: Balochistan Minister for Public Health Engineering and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Abdul Rehman Khetran has said that, under a power-sharing agreement between the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the PML-N, the chief minister’s office in the province will be handed over to the PML-N halfway through the current five-year term.

Speaking to reporters after the provincial assembly session on Friday, Mr Khetran said that it had been agreed at the time of forming the coalition government that the two parties would share power equally during the term. “After two and a half years, the chief minister’s slot will go to the PML-N as per the understanding reached between our leaderships,” he confirmed.

He added that the arrangement also covered other key positions, including the Senate chairman and the speakers of both the National Assembly and the Balochistan Assembly, which were distributed between the coalition partners under the same framework.

However, Mr Khetran clarified that the agreement did not include any understanding about the prime minister’s position at the federal level. “It is incorrect to suggest that in return for giving the chief ministership in Balochistan, the PPP chairman would become the prime minister,” he said, dismissing recent media speculation.

The PML-N minister emphasised that the coalition government in Balochistan was functioning smoothly and that both parties were committed to maintaining political stability and ensuring the province’s development.

The current coalition government, led by the PPP, took power following the February 2024 general elections. The planned rotation of the chief minister’s office marks a continuation of the power-sharing formula the two major parties have adopted in the province to avoid political confrontation
