GWADAR, October 8, 2025 — In a bid to address the worsening Gwadar water crisis 2025, authorities have begun transporting water tankers from Mirani Dam in Turbat via tankers to Gwadar and its surrounding coastal areas, officials confirmed on Tuesday.

The decision was discussed during a high-level review meeting chaired by Maulana Hidayat-ur-Rehman, Jamaat-e-Islami Balochistan Ameer and Member of the Provincial Assembly. The meeting highlighted the ongoing efforts to stabilize the water supply in Gwadar, where long-standing shortages have severely impacted daily life.

Currently, water is being supplied from Shadi Kaur Dam to Gwadar city, while older residential sectors receive water via the Gwadar Port Authority (GPA) desalination plant. Officials, including GPA Chairman Noorul Haq Baloch and Gwadar Development Authority (GDA) DG Moinur Rehman Khan, emphasized that water distribution is being carried out in phases, with more tankers to be added in the coming days.

The issue of tanker rate disputes was also addressed. It was agreed to recommend a revised, ‘reasonable’ rate to the provincial government and ensure payments to tanker operators every 15 days to avoid delivery disruptions.

To ensure fair distribution, GDA and Public Health Engineering (PHE) teams will monitor water delivery at the neighborhood level in coordination with local councilors. Furthermore, public water reservoirs will be restricted to domestic use, while commercial and government departments must procure water independently. Under the crisis response plan, emergency water tankers supply was also approved for Jiwani and the surrounding localities.
