• 74 Afghans detained, 20 cases registered • Action initiated against landlords for violating ban
RAWALPINDI: Police have intensified their crackdown on undocumented Afghan nationals residing in Rawalpindi and nearby areas as part of the government’s nationwide drive to expel illegal foreign residents.
According to officials, 74 Afghan nationals living without valid documents were detained during the latest operations and shifted to refugee holding centres. Authorities also registered 20 criminal cases, including against local landlords accused of renting properties to undocumented Afghans in violation of government directives.
The operation, conducted under special instructions from the Punjab government, covered multiple areas including Saddar Baruni, Rawat, Jatli, Gujar Khan, Taxila, Wah Cantt, Dhamial, Civil Lines, Morgah, Nasirabad, Pirwadhai, Waris Khan and Banni.
Police said five property owners were arrested for allegedly providing accommodation to Afghan nationals without verifying their legal status. Separate cases were registered under the Punjab Information of Temporary Residents Act 2015 and the Farmers Act at Morgah, Jatli and Wah Cantt police stations.

Officials added that in Morgah, a landlord rented a house to an Afghan national and his family despite repeated warnings. Similar violations were reported in Wah Cantt and Ratial areas, where Afghan tenants were later taken into custody and shifted to holding centres.
The federal government has directed law enforcement agencies to submit daily progress reports on the detention and repatriation of illegal Afghan nationals. Citizens have also been warned not to rent, sell, or lease property, nor lend vehicles or engage in business activities with undocumented foreigners.
In a public advisory, police stated that legal action would be taken against anyone employing or facilitating illegal residents. Officials urged the public to report suspicious individuals, assuring that informants’ identities would remain confidential.

Authorities emphasised that strict implementation of government orders was underway to ensure compliance and prevent further violations across Rawalpindi district.
