ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) parliamentary party on Wednesday unanimously passed a resolution urging the arrangement of a meeting between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and incarcerated former Prime Minister Imran Khan. The resolution, later submitted to the National Assembly Secretariat, highlighted that Afridi had been denied access on four occasions despite orders issued by the Islamabad High Court (IHC).
The party asserted that as the head of Pakistan’s largest political party, it is Imran Khan’s constitutional and democratic right to meet the KP chief minister. PTI members termed the repeated denial of access a violation of democratic norms and parliamentary mandate. Afridi, present during the parliamentary meeting, reiterated that he would again attempt to visit Adiala Jail today, noting that official visiting days are Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Speaking to media, Afridi warned that the proposed 27th Constitutional Amendment would undermine provincial autonomy, describing it as an encroachment on powers guaranteed under the Constitution. He emphasized that the KP government would take all possible steps to resist the legislation, underscoring PTI’s role as a guardian of constitutional rights.
Afridi also addressed the National Finance Commission (NFC) award, stating that KP’s 9.4 percent share must not be reduced. He highlighted the sacrifices made by the province in combating terrorism, warning that any reduction would disregard the contributions and losses of its residents.
Separately, PTI Central Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram reaffirmed the party’s resolve to oppose the 27th Amendment, alleging that the current non-representative government aimed to weaken provincial autonomy, politicize state institutions, curtail media freedom, limit judicial independence, and centralize power.
Meanwhile, posts from Imran Khan’s X account, reportedly based on comments from his sister, criticized the government for presiding over a period of oppression. He condemned incidents such as May 9, 2023, and recent events in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Muridke, describing them as abuses of state authority. Khan reiterated the nation’s commitment to the principle of “freedom or death” and emphasized that PTI legal counsel Salman Akram Raja would ensure implementation of all party-related instructions.
