13 Lives Lost as Quetta Targeted in Suicide Attack Following Political Rally

Quetta, Balochistan, Pakistan – A political gathering in the southwestern city of Quetta was the scene of a brutal suicide bombing on September 2, 2025. The attack, which left at least 13 individuals dead and 35 wounded, occurred as participants were departing a rally organized by the Balochistan National Party (BNP).


The event was held at Shahwani Stadium to observe the anniversary of the party founder Sardar Ataullah Mengal’s death. The blast, which police confirmed was a suicide bombing, happened in a parking area near the stadium. Among the dead are members of the BNP.

Initial reports from official sources indicated that at least 11 people were killed, with Reuters and Al Jazeera news sources reporting a figure of 11 dead and 30 injured. However, more recent reports from the Associated Press and Anadolu Agency have placed the fatality count at 13 and the number of injured at 35.

BNP-M leader Sardar Akhtar Mengal, who was present at the rally, has been confirmed to be safe and unharmed. Officials have launched a high-level investigation into the matter. There has been no immediate claim of responsibility for this latest attack in the restive province of Balochistan.
