Rana Sanaullah Rejects Medical Neglect Claims about Imran Khan’s Health

Feb 24, 2026 | PTI, Politics

On Monday, February 23, 2026, Prime Minister’s Advisor on Political and Public Affairs Rana Sanaullah Khan addressed the Senate, responding directly to the opposition’s protests regarding the health and legal status of PTI founder Imran Khan.

The address served as the government’s official rebuttal to the sit-in staged by Tehreek-e-Tahafuz-e-Ayin-e-Pakistan (TTAP) leaders outside the Supreme Court earlier that day.

The Political Olive Branch

Sanaullah urged the opposition to abandon “deadlock tactics” and engage in formal parliamentary dialogue:

  • The Critique: He regretted that the opposition frequently avoids the established political process, which he claimed “always leads to a deadlock” detrimental to the country.
  • The Invitation: He called on the PTI/TTAP leadership to be part of the legislative process to sort out grievances and strengthen democratic institutions.

Official Stance on Imran Khan’s Health

Contrary to the opposition’s claims that the PTI founder has lost 85% of his vision, Sanaullah informed the House that:

  • Apex Court Compliance: The government is strictly following the Supreme Court’s directions regarding medical aid.
  • Provision of Facilities: He asserted that all “entitled facilities” are being provided to the PTI founder at Adiala Jail.
  • The “Injection” Confirmation: Government sources later clarified that Khan is indeed scheduled for a specialized medical procedure (the second eye injection) on February 24 or 25, as previously noted by medical boards.

The Opposition’s Demands (Raja Nasir Abbas)

Earlier in the session, Senate Opposition Leader Raja Nasir Abbas had set a hard line for the government:

  • Hospital Transfer: Demanded the immediate shifting of Imran Khan from Adiala Jail to a specialized hospital.
  • Expedited Hearings: Urged the judiciary to hear the pending corruption and state-gift cases without further delay.
  • A Deal for Stability: Abbas went as far as offering to ensure the government’s stability if the PTI founder’s health concerns were addressed transparently.

Summary of the Standoff

Opposition (TTAP) View Government (PML-N) View
Claims Imran Khan is facing a “medical emergency” (15% vision left). Claims all medical needs are being met per Court orders.
Demands transfer to Shifa International. Maintains security protocols prohibit transfer to private facilities.
Views the legal delays as “political victimization.” Views the opposition’s protests as a “tactic to avoid accountability.”

What to Watch Next

  • Feb 24-25: Whether the government follows through on the promise to provide specialized treatment (the second injection) to Imran Khan.
  • The IMF Review (Starts Feb 25): The government is eager to resolve the “political noise” before the IMF team arrives to discuss the third review of the current bailout program.
