ISLAMABAD – August 12, 2025: On the occasion of International Youth Day, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif addressed a high-level ceremony in Islamabad, outlining a wide-ranging agenda to empower Pakistan’s youth through technology, education, and civic engagement. The event was attended by youth leaders, government officials, and civil society representatives.
Government’s Vision: Skilled, Technologically Advanced Youth
The Prime Minister described Pakistan’s youth as the “driving force of the economy,” highlighting their resilience, courage, and role in shaping the country’s future. He stressed the need to equip young Pakistanis with modern technological skills, particularly in artificial intelligence (AI), to enhance their global competitiveness.

Key Announcements from the Prime Minister’s Address
National AI Policy 2025
The Prime Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the National Artificial Intelligence Policy 2025, which is designed to integrate AI applications into key sectors, with a focus on youth-led innovation.
100,000 Laptops for Students
A new pledge was made to distribute 100,000 laptops on a merit basis to deserving students across Pakistan. This is in addition to the existing loan-based laptop scheme and aims to bridge the digital divide.
Digital Learning and AI for Youth Programs
Two new initiatives—Digital Learning Portal and AI for Youth—were introduced to promote digital education and practical AI training for students and early-career professionals.
Uraan Pakistan Initiative
The Prime Minister commended youth volunteers involved in the Uraan Pakistan Initiative, which facilitates community-level action during emergencies and disasters.
National Volunteer Corps and Smart Youth Program
The government also announced strengthened support for the National Volunteer Corps, the Commonwealth Asia Youth Alliance Secretariat, and the “Smart Youth, Smart Pakistan” campaign, which aim to build leadership and service capacity among young citizens.
Continued Focus on Employment and Skill Development
Ongoing programs such as the Youth Skill Development Programme, Youth Business and Agriculture Loan Scheme, and IT training and internships were highlighted as central pillars of the youth empowerment strategy.
A National Call for Collective Action
The Prime Minister urged all stakeholders—from federal and provincial authorities to parents and educators—to actively contribute to the mission of youth empowerment. He called on young Pakistanis to embrace both technological advancement and cultural values, positioning themselves as custodians of a progressive, ethical, and resilient Pakistan.
“We must invest not only in the skills of our youth but also in their character. A strong, smart, and morally grounded generation is Pakistan’s true strategic asset,” he stated.
