NAROWAL: At least three people lost their lives and nine others were injured in separate accidents linked to reduced visibility caused by smog in Sialkot, Narowal and Sheikhupura districts on Friday, according to Rescue 1122 officials.

Rescue 1122 spokesperson Muhammad Waseem said an emergency call was received from Sambrial Mor, where a car had fallen into the Upper Chenab Canal. The vehicle was carrying 45-year-old Muhammad Irfan, 25-year-old Uzma Bibi and 20-year-old Nadia Bibi. Local residents managed to rescue Irfan and Uzma, while Nadia drowned after being unable to open the car door in time. Rescue teams retrieved the vehicle after a three-hour operation amid dense smog and cold weather. The body was shifted to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Sambrial.

In another incident, a car fell into a canal from an under-construction bridge on Zafarwal–Kangra Road, which links Narowal and Sialkot. The driver reportedly failed to see the bridge due to smog. Four occupants — Muhammad Azeem, Muhammad Farooq, Usman Ali and Farid Ahmed — sustained injuries and were shifted to hospital.

Separately, a man drowned in the Ravi River in Narowal district. District Emergency Officer Engineer Aurangzeb said Rescue 1122 received a call from Shakargarh Road near Kartarpur regarding the incident. A search operation was launched, and the body was recovered after 24 hours from a location about one kilometre downstream. The deceased was identified as 22-year-old Farhan Ali, a resident of Pasrur, Sialkot. His body was taken to District Headquarters Hospital, Narowal.

In another accident near Dera Bolianwali in Sargodha, three motorcyclists were injured when a coach collided with their motorcycle in heavy smog. Rescue 1122 Sheikhupura spokesperson Rana Tajammul Hussain said the injured — Muhammad Usman (29), Farman Ali (26) and Muhammad Anas (25) — were shifted to District Headquarters Hospital Sheikhupura.

Roof Collapse

In a separate incident, the roof of an under-construction house collapsed in village Borewala, Safdarabad. As a result, 47-year-old labourer Muhammad Asif was trapped under the debris and died at the scene.

Authorities have advised motorists to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary travel during smoggy conditions due to low visibility and increased risk of accidents.
