SAHIWAL: At least three people, including a woman, were killed and six others sustained critical injuries in a series of road accidents attributed to dense fog and poor visibility in different parts of Sahiwal late on Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning, officials said.

According to Rescue 1122 and police officials, one fatal incident occurred near the outer bus stop, where a car struck an unidentified man, estimated to be around 55 years old. The driver fled the scene immediately after the collision. Rescue teams shifted the body to Sahiwal Teaching Hospital for medico-legal formalities. Police said the victim’s identity could not be established, and efforts to trace the vehicle and driver were under way.

In another accident on the Sahiwal–Faisalabad Road, a motorcyclist lost his life near the Qutab Shahna Bridge close to the River Ravi. The victim, identified as Raj Muhammad, a resident of Chak 421/GB, reportedly failed to notice a sharp turn due to heavy fog. He lost control of his motorcycle and fell into a trench approximately 40 feet deep, suffering a fatal head injury. He died at the scene before rescue services could arrive.

The third fatal accident took place near Gulshan Fatima Housing Society in village 40/12-L, where a Lahore-bound passenger bus ran over a woman identified as 45-year-old Rukhsana Parveen. She died on the spot, police said, adding that low visibility was a contributing factor.

Several other accidents left six people seriously injured. On the Jaranwala–Satiana Road near Bootaywali Jhaal, a coaster van collided with a sugarcane-laden tractor-trolley. Four passengers of the coaster van sustained critical injuries and were shifted to the Rural Health Centre in Satiana. The injured were identified as Ashfaq (34), Shahid (22), Abid (20), and Saad (19).

In a separate incident on Arifwala Road, a speeding car rear-ended a motorcycle, critically injuring Salman Hyder, a security guard by profession. He was rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital by Rescue 1122.

Another accident was reported near the Old Overhead Bridge, where a pickup van struck Muhammad Raj, a resident of Mohalla Raj Pura, from behind while he was crossing the road. He suffered serious injuries and was taken to Sahiwal Teaching Hospital for treatment.

Police said first information reports (FIRs) had been registered by the Ghala Mandi Police, Noor Shah Police Sahiwal, and Sadar Police Chichawatni in connection with the incidents. However, no arrests had been made so far.

Authorities urged motorists to exercise extreme caution during foggy conditions, reduce speed, and use fog lights to prevent further accidents as dense fog continues to affect visibility across the region.
