TOBA TEK SINGH/BAHAWALPUR/SAHIWAL/OKARA: At least 14 suspects were killed and several others injured on Thursday in a series of alleged armed encounters between the Crime Control Department (CCD) and suspected drug peddlers and dacoits across multiple districts of Punjab.

According to official reports, clashes were reported in Toba Tek Singh, Bahawalpur, Sahiwal, Arifwala, Okara, Vehari, Lodhran, and Nankana Sahib, marking one of the most extensive single-day sequences of police encounters in recent months.

Six Drug Dealers Killed in Shahkot

The most lethal confrontation occurred in Shahkot, Nankana Sahib, where six alleged drug dealers were killed in two back-to-back encounters late Wednesday night. CCD officials said that drug pushers opened fire near Chak 5, prompting retaliation. Three suspects were found dead at the scene, while others fled.

In another Shahkot incident, police claimed narcotics sellers on motorcycles opened fire when signalled to stop. Three men were found dead after the exchange—identified as Afzal of Faisalabad, and Akram, Usman, Abid, Ayub and Khurram, all residents of Shahkot tehsil.

Encounters in Vehari Leave Two Dead

In Vehari, CCD reported two separate confrontations. Near Nahar Khanpur, three suspects allegedly opened fire during checking; Allah Baksh, reportedly wanted in 13 criminal and drug cases, was found dead while two accomplices escaped.

Another suspect, Muhammad Sajjad, was killed in 12/WB, allegedly by gunfire from his fleeing companions during a shootout.

Lodhran, Sahiwal Police Report Multiple Raids

In Lodhran, CCD claimed to arrest Dilawar Hussain alias Khotiwala, wanted in 45 cases, after an encounter in Dunyapur. A constable survived a chest injury due to his bulletproof jacket.

Several incidents were also reported in Sahiwal. In village 25/14-L, suspected drug smuggler Zafar Iqbal was critically wounded while two accomplices escaped. Additional raids in Mosa Shah and Chak 91/9-L led to the arrests of Altaf alias Kali, Asif Ansari, and Mushtaq Ahmed. A police official, Hussain Masood, was critically injured during a separate dacoity response.

Three Killed in Okara Shootouts

In Okara, three suspects were killed in separate encounters. Abdul Ghaffar, Faraz alias Shanker, and Faiz Muhammad died after exchanges with CCD teams, while several accomplices managed to flee. Two police officials survived due to protective gear.

The surge in encounters has raised questions about policing tactics, though authorities maintain the operations targeted dangerous criminals involved in drugs, robberies, and illegal arms. Investigations into each incident are underway.
