Islamabad – October 20, 2025

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was briefed on the country’s law and order situation during a key meeting with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Sunday, according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

The interior minister updated the premier on the evolving security situation and development projects underway in Islamabad. This meeting follows last week’s high-level discussion ahead of a police operation targeting the protest camp of the Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) in Muridke.

The TLP had planned a march on Islamabad, intending to stage a demonstration outside the US embassy in support of Gaza. The Muridke operation, which resulted in multiple arrests and casualties, has prompted strict law enforcement measures across Punjab, including the imposition of Section 144 — restricting public gatherings to maintain public order.

PM Shehbaz reiterated his government’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring the safety of citizens. He praised the efforts of the interior ministry and directed that effective, coordinated operations continue to safeguard lives and property.

Separately, Punjab Police remained on high alert today, providing enhanced security at churches during Christian worship services across the province. Under instructions from Punjab Inspector General Dr Usman Anwar, additional police personnel, including snipers, were deployed at sensitive locations.

Security protocols included patrolling by Dolphin Squad, PRU, and Elite Force units, alongside ongoing search and sweep operations around churches and minority communities. Dr Anwar also highlighted the role of Mesaaq Centres — dedicated hubs aimed at resolving minority community issues swiftly.
