Baku, November 8, 2025 – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday publicly renewed Pakistan’s gratitude to US President Donald Trump for his “bold and decisive leadership” that forced a ceasefire between nuclear-armed Pakistan and India in May, averting what he described as “a major war that could have claimed millions of lives.”
Speaking at Azerbaijan’s glittering Victory Day parade in Baku, flanked by President Ilham Aliyev and Field Marshal Asim Munir, the premier declared: “It was President Trump’s bold and decisive leadership that brought about the ceasefire between Pakistan and India, restoring peace in South Asia and saving millions of people.”

The emphatic praise – the second in weeks – comes as Pakistani JF-17 Thunder jets roared overhead in Azerbaijan’s military parade marking the fifth anniversary of victory in the 44-day Karabakh War.PM Shehbaz, who arrived in Baku on Friday for a two-day official visit, also thanked Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani for recently mediating peace talks between Pakistan and the Afghan Taliban regime.
In a packed day of diplomacy, Shehbaz and President Aliyev vowed to deepen ties in trade, energy, connectivity, and defence, with the Azerbaijani leader accepting an invitation to visit Islamabad soon.
Information Minister Attaullah Tarar celebrated the moment on X: “Long live Pakistan-Azerbaijan friendship! Pakistani troops and JF-17 Thunder jets shine in Baku’s Victory Parade.”The high-profile display underscores Islamabad’s growing strategic alignment with Baku, fresh from last month’s Indus Shield Alpha air exercise.
