QUETTA, Nov 13: The Balochistan government has suspended mobile internet services across all 36 districts of the province from November 10 to 16, citing security concerns, while travel along the Loralai section of National Highway N-70 has also been halted until November 14.

According to a notification issued by the provincial home department, the decision was taken following a security alert and will remain in effect “due to the prevailing situation.”

Officials said the suspension covers all rural areas of the province, excluding Quetta district, which remains exempt. However, residents reported that mobile signals and internet access were unavailable in several parts of Quetta as well, causing difficulties for citizens and businesses.

The provincial government also ordered a temporary suspension of intercity transport services, including taxis and private vehicles, along the Loralai section of the highway until November 14. The restriction, however, does not apply to local or intra-city traffic, allowing residents to commute within their areas for essential needs.

The home department directed district administrations, police, and other authorities to ensure strict implementation of the orders and to provide alternative arrangements to minimize inconvenience for the public. Citizens were also advised to follow the official travel advisory before planning journeys on restricted routes.

Meanwhile, all educational institutions in Quetta Cantonment remained closed on Wednesday. Officials said schools and colleges in the area would remain shut from November 12 to 16 due to security concerns, though several government schools elsewhere in the city remained open.

Balochistan has witnessed a sharp deterioration in security in recent months, with militants stepping up attacks across multiple districts.

Earlier, internet services in Quetta were suspended for 24 hours on October 31 over similar concerns.

A report published in January noted that Pakistan suffered the highest global financial losses from internet shutdowns last year, amounting to $1.62 billion, surpassing countries such as Sudan and Myanmar.
