On Wednesday, February 25, 2026, the family of incarcerated former Prime Minister Imran Khan publicly broke ranks with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leadership. Speaking outside the Islamabad High Court (IHC), Khan’s sisters—Aleema Khan, Uzma Khan, and Noreen Khanum—accused the party’s top brass of “complete silence” and “blindsiding” the family regarding their brother’s health and legal battles.
The “Charge Sheet” Against Leadership
Aleema Khan launched a scathing critique of Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, Latif Khosa, and Barrister Ali Zafar, questioning their absence from the “political and legal battlefield.”
- Secrecy Allegations: The family claimed they were kept in the dark about Imran Khan’s transfer to PIMS Hospital on Monday night for his second eye injection.
- “Traitors” within the Party: Aleema alleged that certain leaders were making independent decisions and maintaining backchannel contacts with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi without informing the family. She claimed the family is aware of “traitors” who are failing to carry the “burden of the founder’s narrative.”
- Legal Inaction: The sisters expressed frustration that despite Khan’s repeated instructions, the legal team had failed to get key cases fixed for hearing or registered correctly.

Dramatic Scenes at the Islamabad High Court
The rift was further highlighted by a tense encounter involving the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister:
- CM Afridi “Ignored”: KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi reached the IHC to seek a meeting with Chief Justice Sarfaraz Dogar to discuss the delay in Khan’s cases.
- The Walk-out: After waiting for over an hour, Afridi attempted to address the rostrum in open court. However, Chief Justice Dogar reportedly stood up and left for his chambers without acknowledging the Chief Minister.
- The Reaction: PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja described the incident as proof that the IHC has become a “closed door” for the party.
PTI Leadership’s Response: “A Communication Gap”
In response to the sisters’ outcry, Barrister Gohar Ali Khan spoke to the media outside the Supreme Court, attempting to de-escalate the internal friction:
- Acknowledgment: Gohar admitted there had been a “communication gap” but insisted the party was making “sincere efforts” for Khan’s release.
- Legal Progress: He noted that Latif Khosa has now submitted an application to the Supreme Court seeking the immediate shifting of Imran Khan to Shifa International Hospital and the early fixation of his asset concealment case.
- Defense of Record: Gohar highlighted that the party had approached the IHC 17 times and the SC 14 times, arguing that the delays were due to judicial bottlenecks rather than party inaction.
The “Shifa vs. PIMS” Debate
| Stakeholder | Demand / Stance |
| The Family | Immediate transfer to Shifa International; treatment under personal doctors (Dr. Aasim Yusuf). |
| PTI Leadership | Supports the family’s demand; currently petitioning the Supreme Court for the transfer. |
| Government | Maintains that PIMS (a state facility) is providing “best possible care” according to jail manuals. |
