ISLAMABAD (April 11, 2026) — Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb departed for the United States on Saturday to represent Pakistan at the 2026 Spring Meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Amidst heightened global economic uncertainty, the Minister is set to undertake a marathon of over 50 high-level engagements aimed at stabilizing Pakistan’s economic trajectory and securing international support for its reform agenda.

High-Level Bilateral & Multilateral Tussle
Minister Aurangzeb’s schedule includes critical meetings with senior IMF leadership, including First Deputy Managing Director Dan Katz and Jihad Azour, Director of the Middle East and Central Asia Department. These discussions will focus on Pakistan’s reform progress and future cooperation frameworks.
On the World Bank side, the Minister will hold talks with Managing Director (Operations) Anna Bjerde and leadership from the IFC and MIGA to discuss development finance and investment guarantees.
Engaging Global Markets and the U.S. Administration
The finance czar is also slated for a series of meetings with top U.S. officials, including representatives from the State Department, the Treasury, and U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer. He has also recently met his Saudi counterpart and discussed matters of mutual interest. These sessions aim to bolster bilateral trade and secure support for Pakistan’s structural reforms.

The Ministry of Finance stated that this visit “underscores Pakistan’s commitment to macroeconomic stability” and is vital for securing sustainable growth at a time when the “Islamabad Venue” peace talks are already impacting global energy and trade perspectives.
