ISLAMABAD, May 5 — The Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) has called for countrywide protests on Wednesday and Friday to condemn the targeted killing of prominent scholar and former provincial lawmaker Maulana Idrees. The senior cleric was fatally shot by unidentified gunmen on Tuesday while traveling to a religious seminary in Charsadda. JUI-F Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman confirmed that the party will organize peaceful rallies across all four provincial capitals and major districts to protest the deteriorating security situation. Party spokespersons stated that the persistent targeting of religious scholars has become an unbearable loss for the organization and the nation.
