ISLAMABAD — The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) announced on Monday that a westerly weather wave is moving toward the upper parts of the country. This weather system is expected to bring dust storms, thunderstorms, and heavy rain across several provinces between June 2 and June 5. Local authorities have been directed to stay alert and take safety measures to protect the public.

Widespread Rain and Hail Predicted for Punjab and KP
The PMD advisory shows that Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Faisalabad, and nearly 40 other districts in Punjab will see scattered dust storms and rain, with some areas facing heavy downpours and hailstorms.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, districts including Peshawar, Swat, Abbottabad, and Waziristan will receive regular rain and thunderstorms with occasional breaks. Similarly, Kashmir will experience windstorms and heavy rain from June 2 to June 5, while Gilgit-Baltistan will see intermittent wet weather between June 4 and June 6.
Dust Storms in Sindh and Balochistan
The lower provinces will also feel the impact of this weather system. In upper Sindh, areas such as Sukkur, Larkana, and Jacobabad will see dust storms and thunderstorms from June 2 to June 4. Meanwhile, northeastern parts of Balochistan, including Quetta, Ziarat, and Chaman, will experience similar dusty and stormy conditions during the same period.
The weather department warned that strong winds and storms could damage weak structures like mud houses and billboards. Furthermore, heavy rains create a serious risk of landslides in the hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir from June 3 to June 6. Tourists have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel to northern destinations, and farmers are urged to protect their crops based on the new forecast.
