BANNU — At least 20 people, including women and children, were injured on Tuesday after powerful winds and a severe storm swept through Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bannu district. The intense weather system caused multiple walls, roofs, and commercial structures to collapse across residential and business areas, trapping several residents under the debris.

Emergency Operations and Safety Warnings

Following the structural collapses, Rescue 1122 personnel launched immediate relief operations across the district to evacuate trapped victims and provide first aid on-site. The injured were quickly transported to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital Bannu for medical treatment. District Emergency Officer Bakhtullah Wazir is personally supervising the ongoing rescue efforts, and all emergency teams remain on high alert to handle further incidents.

The disaster aligns with a recent Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) advisory, which warned that a westerly wave would bring severe dust storms and thunderstorms to the upper parts of the country between June 2 and June 5. In light of the damage, authorities have urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel, stay clear of weak or dilapidated buildings, and contact emergency services immediately if assistance is needed.
