Security forces killed 12 armed attackers on Monday after they attacked a convoy of vehicles from the Reko Diq copper and gold project in Chagai. The convoy was returning from the project site to Quetta when unidentified attackers tried to intercept it and opened heavy.

A Prolonged Firefight in the Nokacha Area
“Around three dozen empty vehicles of the Reko Diq project were moving toward Quetta under security escort when they came under attack in the Nokacha area of Chagai,” an official said on condition of anonymity. The convoy’s security personnel took defensive positions and opened fire immediately. The exchange continued for more than two hours before it ended. Two security personnel were injured.
Officials said 11 of the attackers were killed at the scene. Weapons and ammunition, including heavy weapons, were recovered from the attackers after the operation. Later, Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti revised the death toll, confirming 12 attackers had been killed in the firing exchange. Officials with the Reko Diq project did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the incident.
CM Bugti vows no talks with armed groups
CM Bugti said the government has carried out successful, continuous intelligence-based operations against militants in Balochistan. He made the government’s position clear in a post on X: “No negotiations with those who take up arms against the state and shed the blood of innocent citizens. Those who take the path of terrorism and violence will be dealt with as per law, he said.
Bugti said the state will not compromise on its authority or on safeguarding the lives and property of the people of Balochistan. “The security forces and law enforcement agencies are conducting effective and coordinated operations to bring lasting peace and stability in the entire province,” he said. He said the authorities would take indiscriminate action against militants and all those facilitating their activities, and every attempt to sabotage peace in Balochistan would be foiled in the future.
