Pakistan Balances Global Partnerships
In an interview with a German media outlet, ISPR DG Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry underlined that Pakistan’s relationship with the US remains “very important.” He noted that Islamabad has enhanced convergences with Washington while managing differences “with deft diplomacy.”
Responding to a question about Army Chief Asim Munir’s recent visit to Washington, he confirmed that relations with the US were warming up, particularly in counterterrorism cooperation.
At the same time, he clarified that Pakistan’s foreign policy does not revolve around choosing one country over another. “We have constructive and strategic relationships with China and other partners as well,” he stressed.
India’s Extremism Exposed
Turning to regional security, the DG ISPR pointed to the extremist ideology influencing Indian state institutions, including its Army. He said the Kashmir issue, state-sponsored terrorism, and Hindutva extremism continue to drive conflict in South Asia.
“The irrationality and strategic arrogance that India has adopted will not work,” he remarked, urging the international community to intervene and mediate for peace.
Terrorism: Not Insurgency, But Indian Backing
Lt Gen Chaudhry dismissed the narrative of “insurgency” in Pakistan, making it clear: “It is pure terrorism.” He stressed that every attack inside Pakistan bears the footprint of Indian support.
He recalled that Pakistan has presented six dossiers since 2009 documenting India’s involvement in terrorism.
Pakistan’s Counterterror Efforts
Highlighting Pakistan’s resolve, the DG ISPR said security forces have carried out 47,900 intelligence-based operations this year, killing over 1,000 terrorists. These efforts, however, came at a heavy cost—762 martyrs, including nearly 300 civilians.
“This level of sustained threat cannot exist without external support,” he said, reaffirming Pakistan’s determination to defeat terrorism despite challenges. The DG ISPR’s remarks underline that Pakistan seeks balanced, strategic ties globally while standing firm against Indian-sponsored terrorism at home.
