Key Points from the Announcement
- Special courts to be set up with mandatory 90-day resolution of land grabbing cases.
- The proposed law carries up to 10 years imprisonment for illegal land occupation.
- Fee waiver announced for students in flood-hit areas.
- Pera officials took an oath to serve without corruption or bribery.
Protecting the Vulnerable
Speaking at a ceremony organised by the Punjab Enforcement and Regulatory Authority (Pera), the CM said the new legislation would safeguard land owned by orphans, widows and underprivileged citizens.
“There will be no encroachment on the land of the weak and helpless in Punjab. Wherever injustice occurs, the Punjab government will be there to bring the oppressors to justice,” she said.
Strengthening Pera’s Role
Ms Nawaz also administered an oath to Pera officials, binding them to honesty and public service. Recent allegations of corruption had raised concerns about Pera’s functioning, but the CM reaffirmed its role as a watchdog against inflation, hoarding, and encroachment.
She praised the authority’s relief work during recent floods and stressed the need to curb artificial inflation and black marketing.
“Even while I was in Tokyo, I was informed about rising wheat and flour prices. Thanks to Pera’s efforts and the administration, prices were brought down,” the CM added.
