PESHAWAR — In a successful intelligence-based operation (IBO) against militants in Bannu, the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, in coordination with local police, killed two terrorists near Shagi Machankhel on Jhandokhel Road.
The slain terrorists were identified as Suhail Khan alias Sangri and Ismail alias Usman. Both were involved in multiple attacks, including assaults on Sheikh Landik and Fateh Khel police check posts, attacks on security forces’ convoys, and an IED blast at the under-construction Rescue 1122 building, which injured eight police constables.
Acting on credible intelligence, CTD Bannu’s Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) teams and Bannu Police cordoned off the area. When the terrorists opened fire, security personnel returned fire, leading to the elimination of both militants. Weapons and items recovered from the site included two Kalashnikov rifles, one pistol, ammunition, a motorcycle, mobile phones, national identity cards, and a card linked to the proscribed TTP.

Inspector General of Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Zulfiqar Hameed, along with the Additional IG CTD, praised the Bannu Police and CTD SWAT teams for the operation, reaffirming that intelligence-driven counterterrorism measures will continue across the province until terrorism is completely eradicated.
In a separate incident, militants attacked the Nala Kasho police check post using light and heavy weapons. The attack was successfully repelled by contingents from Domel and Town Police Stations, along with other security personnel.

Despite ongoing operations, Pakistan saw a sharp rise in militancy in 2025. According to the Pakistan Security Report 2025 by the Pak Institute for Peace Studies (PIPS), terrorist attacks increased by 34% compared to the previous year, resulting in 1,034 fatalities and 1,366 injuries nationwide. The report highlights the continuing threat of militancy, particularly following the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan in 2021.
