KARACHI: More than 100 people died from mosquito-borne diseases in Sindh during 2025, according to data from Indus Hospital, AKUH, SIDH&RC, and LUH, raising concerns over the accuracy of official provincial statistics.

While the government reported 33 deaths, hospitals indicated 103 fatalities, including 83 in Karachi. Cases peaked between August and November, with severe disease presentations leading to rapid deterioration.

Dr Samreen Sarfaraz of Indus Hospital explained that dengue patients who died often had organ dysfunction, bleeding, or shock, while malaria fatalities were linked to high parasitic loads, severe anemia, and organ failure. Prompt treatment was emphasized as crucial to preventing deaths.

Indus Hospital reported 8,883 dengue cases and 2,719 malaria cases in 2025. SIDH&RC saw 941 cases with 14 dengue deaths, LUH reported 25 dengue fatalities, and AKUH recorded six dengue deaths.

Experts warned that the actual number of deaths could be higher, as many patients seek treatment at small clinics or die at home without being officially recorded.

Health officials and doctors have urged Sindh residents to take precautions, including eliminating stagnant water, using mosquito repellents, and seeking immediate medical care for high fever, body aches, or vomiting.
