A new and important institution for cultural preservation, the Derajat Museum, was officially opened on Sunday, November 16, 2025, in Dera Ismail Khan, marking a significant commitment to safeguarding the rich history of the region.

This museum is intended to be the primary cultural hub for the entire Dera division, focusing on the historical, archaeological, and cultural heritage of D.I. Khan and the surrounding tribal areas.

A Home for History and Craft

The museum’s core mission is to act as a permanent guardian for the region’s vast “treasure trove,” ensuring that successive generations can connect with their identity and ancestors. The collection will feature a diverse array of items. Priceless historical objects recovered from the nearby Gomal Plain, a region that includes the ancient Bronze Age settlement of Rehman Dheri. There is also a showcase of the unique handicrafts and artistic expressions developed by the regional tribes.

Displays are also dedicated to illustrating the traditional customs and historical way of life in D.I. Khan.

The region has a history that stretches back millennia, and the museum will now serve as the crucial educational and scholarly center for interpreting these deep roots.

A Community’s Cultural Investment

The inauguration ceremony, attended by community leaders and government officials, underscored the widespread consensus that the museum is an essential step for cultural tourism and heritage education.

By creating a dedicated, permanent space, the Derajat Museum elevates the regional history that was previously only celebrated during temporary events like the annual Derajat Festival. It offers a continuous platform to experience and study the shared cultural identity of the people of Dera Ismail Khan and its adjacent areas.
