DUBAI — A suspected Iranian drone targeted the U.S. Consulate on Al Seef Road in Dubai late Tuesday, March 3, 2026, sparking a fire and triggering a massive security response in the UAE’s commercial hub. The attack is the latest in a wave of retaliatory strikes by Iran against U.S. diplomatic and military assets across the Gulf following the assassination of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Witnesses reported a loud explosion followed by thick black smoke rising from the consulate’s vicinity.
- The Target: U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed that a drone struck a parking lot adjacent to the consulate’s chancellery building.
- Casualties: The Dubai Media Office and U.S. officials confirmed that no injuries were reported. All consulate personnel were accounted for and safe, having been “drawn down” in advance due to rising regional tensions.
- Containment: Emergency teams arrived on the scene immediately and successfully extinguished the blaze before it could spread to the main diplomatic structures.
UAE Air Defenses on High Alert
The attack on the consulate occurred amidst a broader Iranian barrage targeting the Emirates.
- Massive Interception: The UAE Ministry of Defense announced it intercepted 11 ballistic missiles and 123 drones on Tuesday alone. Since the conflict began on February 28, the UAE has detected over 186 ballistic missiles and 812 drones launched from Iranian territory.
- Dubai Operations: Authorities confirmed that loud sounds heard throughout the city were the result of active air defense interceptions. Residents reported hearing jet sounds over the city as surveillance was tightened.
Iran’s “Jihadi Advantage” vs. Trump’s “Four Weeks”
In Tehran, the rhetoric remains defiant despite the heavy toll of U.S. and Israeli airstrikes.
- The Iranian Claim: Military officials in Tehran stated that Iran holds a “decisive jihadi and military advantage” and predicted that the “enemy will flee in a few days.”
- The U.S. Stance: President Donald Trump reiterated that the military campaign could last approximately four weeks, with the goal of “finishing” the Iranian regime’s ability to threaten global peace.

- Embassy Closures: Washington has temporarily closed several missions in the Middle East and ordered non-emergency personnel to leave.
- UAE Response: While the UAE has not officially entered the war, reports suggest the government is “evaluating its defensive posture” and considering active measures against Iran following the repeated targeting of its cities.
