In a first-of-its-kind initiative, the Punjab government has transformed the province’s urban landscape into a festive vista to welcome the holy month of Ramazan 1447 Hijri (beginning Thursday, February 19, 2026). Under the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) has coordinated an extensive illumination drive across major cities and commercial hubs.
Illumination Highlights & Thematic Models
For the first time, city centers have been decorated with specialized illuminated models designed to foster a spiritual and community-focused atmosphere.
- Decorative Models: Large-scale replicas of crescent moons, stars, and traditional lanterns (Fanoos) have been installed at key intersections.
- Religious Icons: Glowing mosque replicas and illuminated inscriptions of the 99 Names of Allah (Asma-ul-Husna) adorn major arteries.
- “Ramazan Nigehban” Branding: Neon signs and arches bearing the government’s relief slogan, “Ramazan Nigehban”, are visible at entry points to major markets.
- Nature in Light: Greenbelts and trees along prominent roads (like Murree Road in Rawalpindi and Canal Road in Lahore) have been wrapped in vibrant, multi-colored electric lights.

Cities Adorned in the Lighting Drive
The initiative covers almost every major urban district in the province:
| Region | Key Cities Illuminated |
| Central Punjab | Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Nankana Sahib, Gujrat |
| Northern Punjab | Rawalpindi, Murree (winding roads), Attock, Chakwal, Talagang |
| Southern Punjab | Multan, Bahawalpur, D.G. Khan, Rajanpur, Lodhran, Khanewal, Vehari |
| Western Punjab | Sargodha, Mianwali, Bhakkar, Khushab |
Festive Markets & Public Facilitation
The lighting is not merely aesthetic; it is integrated with the government’s relief measures:
- Sahulat & Nigehban Bazaars: Specially decorated arches mark the entrance to subsidised bazaars where essential food items are provided at lower rates.
- Pushcart Bazaars: For the first time, even small-scale pushcart markets have been provided with basic lighting to enhance the festive spirit for low-income residents.
- Dastarkhwan Centers: More than 300 Iftar and Sehar centers have been set up with illuminated markers to guide the needy to free meals.
