Former Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa is currently receiving medical treatment at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Rawalpindi after a fall at his residence on the morning of Tuesday, February 10, 2026.

While initial reports suggested a simple slip, new medical details from family sources indicate the fall was caused by a sudden cardiac event.

Heart Block and Head Injury

Medical reports from Friday, February 13, clarified that the former army chief did not merely slip but fainted due to a Third-Degree Atrioventricular (AV) Block—a condition where electrical signals in the heart are severely disrupted.

  • The Incident: Around 4:30 AM on Tuesday, Gen Bajwa suffered a sudden loss of consciousness (fainting) which led to a fall.
  • Nature of Injuries: The fall resulted in three hairline fractures in his skull. Fortunately, doctors confirmed there are no blood clots in the brain.
  • Current Status: He is stable, fully conscious, and recognizing family members. He is currently being treated with a temporary pacemaker, with plans for a permanent one to be installed soon.

The military’s media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), issued a statement on Thursday, February 12, confirming the hospitalization:

“Former Chief of Army Staff General (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa, Nishan-e-Imtiaz (Military), sustained an injury after falling at his residence. He is currently under treatment at CMH.”

Family Response

His brother-in-law, Naeem Ghummam, shared a video update on X (formerly Twitter) to dispel social media rumors, stating that the General has undergone comprehensive testing and is “100% out of danger.” The family has requested privacy while the medical team continues to monitor his recovery in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

General Bajwa served as Pakistan’s 10th COAS for six years (2016–2022). His tenure was notable for:
