PESHAWAR: KP Finance Adviser, Muzzammil Aslam, on Thursday accused the federal government of favouring Punjab in the distribution of federal revenues, claiming the province received a disproportionately higher share during the first quarter of the current fiscal year.
In a statement, KP Finance Adviser Mr Aslam said that Punjab had been allocated 16 per cent additional revenue in the first three months, far more than the increase provided to other provinces. “Justice demands that the federal government also give the remaining provinces the same 16 per cent additional revenue,” he said, adding that Sindh, KP and Balochistan had received comparatively lower increments.

Citing a recently released report on quarterly revenue transfers, he said Punjab received Rs882 billion with a 16pc increase, followed by Sindh with Rs441bn reflecting a 13pc rise. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, he noted, was allocated Rs287bn with a 12pc increase, while Balochistan received Rs164bn—only a 5pc increase.

The KP Finance Adviser argued that provinces like KP and Balochistan, which face persistent security challenges and lag behind in development indicators, should have been prioritised for higher allocations. Instead, he alleged, the federal government was extending “special favour” to Punjab.
Mr Aslam said an attempt was being made to promote a narrative that Punjab was leading in project execution, rather than acknowledging what he termed as unfair distribution practices. “The federal government should clarify its position on this matter and adopt an equal policy for all provinces,” he maintained.
The federal government had not issued an immediate response to the claims by the time this report was filed.
