Decision Taken in Interior Ministry Meeting
The decision was finalized during a meeting chaired by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Saturday.
Also present were Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, Capital Development Authority (CDA) Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa, the Commandant and Deputy Commandant of the FC, and senior officials from the ministry.
Officials explained that the move is aimed at improving operational efficiency and administrative coordination of the force at the federal level.
CDA Tasked With Site Selection
Interior Minister Naqvi directed the CDA to immediately identify and allocate land in Islamabad for the new HQ. He said the site must be large enough to meet both administrative and training requirements.
The CDA was instructed to prepare a comprehensive master plan for the headquarters as soon as possible.
“We aim to transform the FC into a modern, well-organized, and highly efficient force,” Naqvi said, stressing that the government remains committed to strengthening the force’s capacity to deal with evolving security challenges.
FC’s Expanded Mandate
This move follows the Frontier Constabulary (Re-organization) Ordinance, 2025, signed by President Asif Ali Zardari in July.
The ordinance restructured the Frontier Constabulary into the Federal Constabulary, granting it nationwide powers. The redefined role enables the FC to:
- Assist provincial police and LEAs across the country.
- Support ICT Police in maintaining law and order.
- Respond to civil unrest, natural disasters, and emerging threats.
The force will be headed by an Inspector General appointed by the federal government.
From Border Force to National Role
Originally created to maintain peace in border regions, the FC was placed under federal control in 1975 during the tenure of former Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.
With its new structure, the FC will now function as a federal reserve force, capable of supporting law enforcement agencies nationwide — a significant departure from its traditional focus on tribal and frontier areas.
