LAHORE, November 8: A superintendent of police (SP) declared “unfit for field posting” by the Lahore High Court (LHC) was reassigned on Friday to one of Lahore’s most sought-after divisions within hours of the court’s observation.
During proceedings related to an inheritance dispute, Justice Shehram Sarwar Chaudhry expressed dissatisfaction over the performance of Model Town SP (Operations) Akhlaqullah Tarar and summoned Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar. The judge noted that the officer had acted beyond his jurisdiction in a case concerning property in Karachi.
“Do not assign this SP to field duty. Keep him at your office instead,” Justice Chaudhry remarked, warning the IGP that continued field postings for the officer could invite further judicial scrutiny.
In response, IGP Anwar acknowledged that the officer had “acted wrongly” and informed the court that a disciplinary notice had been issued. He described SP Tarar as “an honest officer who made a mistake” and assured the bench that the case had been referred to the relevant authorities in Karachi.
The judge also rebuked DIG Operations Faisal Kamran for appearing to defend the SP during the hearing, asking whether he was “backing” the officer. The petitioner, Bilal Muhammad Khan, later withdrew his plea, after which the court disposed of the case.
Soon after the court proceedings, the Punjab Police issued a notification transferring eight officers across the province. The order reassigned SP Tarar from Model Town Division to the Cantonment Division — a posting widely considered among the most coveted for SP-rank officers in Lahore.

Sources said a federal minister had intervened in the matter, helping the officer avoid a non-field assignment. Observers noted that the IGP may now face questions over the decision, given the court’s explicit recommendation against the SP’s field deployment.
ASP Operations Defence Syeda Sheharbano has been appointed as the new SP of Model Town Division.
