KARACHI (April 21, 2026) — Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah announced on Monday that Rs146.77 million has been disbursed to 3,976 vehicles under the province’s targeted fuel subsidy initiative. The program, designed to mitigate the impact of record-high fuel prices (petrol at Rs458.41 and diesel at Rs520.35), aims to stabilize transport fares by supporting goods and public service transporters.
Subsidy Progress
- 3,976 vehicles processed; Rs146.77 million paid out.
- Pending Claims: Over 5,000 cases are currently stalled due to CNIC mismatches, missing IBANs, and data inconsistencies.
- Sindh has identified a total of 11,980 vehicles as eligible for the joint federal-provincial support.
- The Chief Minister ordered “zero tolerance” for administrative delays, demanding that verification errors be resolved immediately.

Addressing Data Inconsistencies
During a high-level review at CM House, it was revealed that nearly half of the submitted applications were returned or held up due to clerical errors. Minister for Transport Sharjeel Memon and Excise Minister Mukesh Chawla were directed to coordinate with federal authorities to streamline the verification process. The Chief Minister emphasized that relief must reach “genuine transporters” quickly to prevent a further hike in public transit costs.
Digital Overhaul of the Transport Sector
The meeting also highlighted significant digital reforms currently being integrated across the province’s transport infrastructure:
- Systems for Motor Vehicle Inspection (MVI) and the Provincial/Regional Transport Authorities (PTA/RTA) are being fully automated.
- For the first time, these databases are being linked with the Excise Department, Traffic Police, and National Highways & Motorway Police.
- The CM mandated that no vehicle be registered or transferred without route permit verification, aiming to bring undocumented vehicles into the formal economy.
During a review meeting on the scheme, introduced in response to recent fuel price increases, officials reported that more than 5,000 cases are currently under scrutiny due to issues such as CNIC mismatches, missing bank account details, and other data inconsistencies.

Wider Relief Measures
The transport subsidy is part of a broader Rs14.3 billion provincial relief package, which also includes a monthly Rs2,000 subsidy for approximately 6.7 million registered motorcycle owners. To facilitate these programs, the Sindh government has abolished the motorcycle transfer fee and directed excise offices to remain open until midnight, ensuring that the working class can complete their registration and receive direct bank transfers.
