DERA ISMAIL KHAN – October 12, 2025— At least seven police personnel were martyred and 13 others injured in a deadly terrorist attack on a police training centre in Dera Ismail Khan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, late Friday night, officials confirmed on Saturday.

According to a report issued by the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), the attack occurred around 8:30 PM within the limits of Shorkot Police Station. The assault began when militants, affiliated with the banned Fitna al Khawarij (FAK) , rammed an explosives-laden truck into the gate of the training school in the Ratta Kalachi area, causing part of the perimeter wall to collapse.

The terrorists then stormed the premises, firing automatic weapons and throwing grenades. The ensuing gun battle with police and security forces lasted nearly five hours. Authorities said five attackers were killed during the operation.

Dera Ismail Khan Assistant Commissioner Muhammad Hamid Siddiqui confirmed that a nearby Nadra office was also torched by the militants during the chaos.

The police, backed by security forces, launched a swift counter-operation. District Police Officer (DPO) Sahibzada Sajjad Ahmed and Regional Police Officer Syed Ashfaq Anwar were among those who rushed to the scene. Suicide jackets, explosives, and ammunition were recovered from the neutralised militants.

IG KP Police Zulfiqar Hameed praised the “unparalleled bravery” of the officers, saying their actions reflected the force’s commitment to eradicating terrorism. He announced compensation for the families of the martyrs and special rewards for those involved in the operation.

The attack is the latest in a series of escalating terrorist incidents in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which has seen a surge in violence targeting police and security personnel. DI Khan, in particular, has witnessed multiple attacks over the past month, including the martyrdom of a senior army officer during a recent intelligence-based operation.

According to independent security reports, KP remains the most terrorism-affected region in Pakistan, accounting for 45 attacks in September alone, resulting in 54 deaths and 49 injuries.

Pakistan’s security situation has deteriorated since the TTP unilaterally ended its ceasefire with the government in 2022, leading to increased attacks in both KP and Balochistan
