ISLAMABAD — The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday directed the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to form a special joint investigation team (JIT) to probe the alleged involvement of Punjab Police officials in the abduction of a woman and her three minor daughters from Lahore and Bahawalpur.
Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani issued the directive while hearing a petition filed in connection with the case. The court observed that video evidence presented in the proceedings “clearly shows” the woman and her daughters being forcibly taken away — an act the judge described as a serious violation of the sanctity of the chador and char deewari (veil and four walls).

Justice Kayani remarked that such actions by uniformed personnel amounted to criminal misconduct and undermined public confidence in law enforcement institutions. “The court cannot remain silent when fundamental rights are being violated under the guise of official authority,” he observed.
The judge instructed the FIA director to immediately constitute a special JIT to identify the role of Punjab Police officers and any other individuals allegedly involved in the incident. He further ordered the senior superintendent of police (SSP) Investigation to record the statement of the victim and submit a comprehensive report before the next hearing.

Expressing concern over the conduct of the provincial police, Justice Kayani said the Punjab chief minister, being a woman herself, should personally review the case and ensure accountability for what he termed an “inhuman and unlawful” act.
The court cautioned that any effort to protect those responsible would be considered obstruction of justice and directed authorities to ensure the safety and privacy of the victims during the investigation process.
The case has drawn public attention amid growing concerns about alleged misuse of power by law enforcement officials and the need for stronger oversight mechanisms to prevent abuses.
