ISLAMABAD – Iran’s newly elected President, Masoud Pezeshkian, will arrive in Pakistan on August 2 for a two-day official visit. This will be his first foreign visit since taking office, signaling a renewed commitment to deepen ties between the two neighboring countries.

President Pezeshkian will be accompanied by a high-level delegation, including Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi. The visit reflects growing diplomatic momentum, with a focus on political, economic, cultural, and security cooperation.

At the top of the agenda is bilateral trade, with both sides aiming to expand trade from $3 billion to $10 billion. Initiatives such as joint border markets, free zones, and a potential Free Trade Agreement (FTA) will be explored.

Another key focus is the Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline, known as the Peace Pipeline. Despite facing delays due to U.S. sanctions, the project remains critical for Pakistan’s energy needs, and both leaders are expected to seek paths forward.

Security talks will cover cross-border issues, counter-terrorism, and drug trafficking along their shared border. Regional affairs, particularly developments in Afghanistan and the Gaza Strip, will also feature prominently.

President Pezeshkian is set to meet President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and military officials. His visit includes a symbolic stop in Lahore, where he will visit the mausoleum of Allama Iqbal before heading to Islamabad.
