QUETTA, September 3, 2025 – At least 15 people were killed and dozens wounded in a suicide bombing at a political rally in Quetta, Balochistan. The extremist group ISPP (Islamic State Pakistan Province) has claimed responsibility through ISIS Central Media.

Details of the Attack
- The blast occurred on Tuesday evening in the parking lot of a Quetta stadium, shortly after a Balochistan National Party (BNP) rally ended.
- Authorities said the bomber used around 8 kilograms of explosives.
- The attack struck as hundreds of BNP supporters were dispersing after party leader Akhtar Mengal’s address.
Official Response
- Balochistan Interior Minister Hamza Shafqat confirmed the death toll at 15 and said dozens more were injured.
- BNP chief Akhtar Mengal, who narrowly escaped the blast, posted on X:
“I am safe, but deeply heartbroken at the loss of our workers.”

Context
- Balochistan, Pakistan’s largest but least developed province, has long faced militancy, insurgency, and cross-border infiltration.
- Violence in the region is often carried out by ISIS-Khorasan, ISIS-Pakistan, or Baloch separatist groups.
- In 2024, the province witnessed a sharp rise in violence, with over 780 casualties linked to terrorism and insurgent attacks.

- ISIS considers political parties and state institutions as targets but rarely strikes Baloch nationalist groups.
- The group released a photo of the alleged bomber with his face covered, claiming responsibility for the attack.
